Best Photo
I have loved this picture from the moment I captured it. In my photography, the thing I love to do the most is capture pictures with meaning, with a story behind them. This one certainly does just that. The subject of this photo is a U.S. Navy Decommissioned Destroyer, that now sits at Battleship Cove in Fall River. It was somewhat of a cloudy day, but the water was beautiful, like glass. I have spent many mornings on this ship, wether it be on a movie set, during volunteer weeks to work on the ships, or even standing watch during Overnight Weekends. This picture captures some of the feelings of those early mornings on this ship and the ones that sit beside her. Also, for someone that wants to join the Navy, the sight of this ship is very similar to the possible places I may find myself working one day. One of the things that is strong about this photo is its' leading lines. Wether it be the line used to raise flags connecting from the jackstaff to top of the ship, or the all of the antennas pointing straight up. The next thing that I thought was strong about this picture was by using the rule of thirds. In order to make the shot more interesting, the ship is centered in the left hand two thirds of the photo. The last thing that I thought was strong about this photo was the texture. You can see the smooth side of the boat, and even a little but of the rust on the anchor chain. This just shows that the ship has been loved and put to good use. The one thing that I would do to improve this photo would be to come back at a different tome of day and attempt to capture a little bit more color and light. Also, I could try to take the shot from different angles looking out towards the destroyer.
